Overview
Philanthropy has a tremendous role to play; new and large-scale investments are necessary to achieve bold structural reforms and shape a truly equitable California for all. Too often funders provide short, intense bursts of funding focused on one campaign or one issue and they frequently focus on a few well-established groups.
Today’s challenges demand that philanthropy and our partners explore new and innovative approaches to civic engagement and provide funds for year-round, multi-year efforts. We are grateful to the funders who have joined us to co-create a shared vision for structural reforms and long term power-building infrastructure.

From Our Funders
“PIVOT is transforming how funders and practitioners work together to make California more equitable for communities of color through a meaningful investment in voter participation and civic engagement. CCF is proud to partner with PIVOT to advance racial justice, and build political power and systemic change across California for historically marginalized communities by bringing community organizers and funders together to strengthen impact through its innovative, community-driven approach to trust-based philanthropy.”
-Miguel A. Santana, President and CEO, California Community Foundation (PIVOT Fiscal Administrator)
“We are proud to support the critical work of PIVOT. Through this investment, and by partnering with like-minded funders, we further our commitment to amplifying the voices, leadership, and power of people of color, and others who have historically been excluded from full participation in civil society. For democracy to work for everyone, it must include everyone.”
-Lori Cox, Vice President of Programs, The California Wellness Foundation
“This moment calls for us to support civic engagement in communities of color across California and build power for the long haul. I appreciate how PIVOT is expanding funding for this important work.”
-Cathy Cha, President & CEO, Evelyn & Walter Haas Jr. Fund
“One of the most powerful things philanthropy can do is to co-create with movement organizers to help all people – and especially Black, Indigenous, and people of color – to have a strong civic voice in the decisions that impact them. PIVOT brings organizers, funders, grassroots leaders, researchers, and movement supporters to the table to work together for bold structural change in California.”
